BBQ Weekend

20 Apr

Well, its been a busy few weeks. Working full time, trying to start a consulting business on the side as well as doing the normal FBRP stuff…it gets to you after a while. While I love it all, sometimes, its a lot to take on. But, then I think about how lucky I am just to have that type of problem….and…it could be way worse…

So, what do I do when I am overwhelmed? I cook. I made burgers for my lady friend and I this past week. It was a simple marinade that I rubbed into ground chuck and then formed patties. Topped with a slice of mild cheddar and a sourdough crotini roll. And then I toasted up some steak fries to serve with the burger. Solid.
BBQ ingredientsAs you can see, I combined the ingredients into a mixing bowl, added the beef, and went to town. As you can see here, this is right after I threw the cheddar on the burgers. And finally, a finished product. A solid Thursday night.

This past weekend, we had a BBQ at my parents house for a few friends. While the normal relaxing, beer-pong tourney playin’ times were all accounted for, I also whipped up a batch of my famous Tater Tot Casserole. While the ingredients are known to a select few, the taste is universally accepted as “awesome” or “amazing”. Don’t believe me? Well, I guess I’ll have to make it for you too! And when I open a restaurant, this will be the featured side dish. Real talk.

And to finish up this post, I’d like to share a song with you. My partner in crime, Mikey Karlin (or @mikekarlin if you’re feeling twitter-y) saw the band She and Him last week at the Glasshouse in Pomona. Excellent show. While some songs blend together, I really like the new album (Volume 2)and they played my two favorite songs (sentimental heart and sweet darling) from their first album, Volume 1, so I was a pretty happy camper. Thanks for taking me Mikey, it was like old times. We should make it happen more often. So, here is a video from She and Him, from the show I went to, with their encore of “Sweet Darling“. Enjoy.

….and I’m out!

Found your blog via the tag surfer…

I love tater tots! Would you share your recipe with a stranger on the other side of the US?

Thank you for the view! Well, unfortunately, that is the only recipe of mine that I can’t share! Its a family recipe that I like to present for only special occasions, mainly due to the excessive use of cheese, hence fat content.(but it tastes sooo good!) I am so sorry, really!

But, I do make an excellent fish taco and you have the recipe as well as a video if you head over to

And feel free to share that recipe!
